electrical prob: head temp sensor/tach (long)

what a nightmare... i installed one of these jwt ecu upgrades in my 82zxt and the car went nuts. ive been fighting it for a month now.

i was gonna take the ecu out and send it back today but still had a couple of things to check first.

went to check the cylinder head temp circuit. it was dead. found a splice and opened it up. someone had soldered in 2 resistors (in series) and the wire had burned in two. i also had an air regulator heating element burn out also after i put in the new ecu, no doubt because of the f**** up wiring and electrical riggs done to this car.

whoever did it knew what they were doing because the car ran perfectly w/the "riggs" on the old ecu but its all changed now.

i reconnected the wires to the head temp sensor, readjusted the timing and the thing's fast enough to scare me 1/2 to death.

but the tach stopped working and just stuck @ 500rpm after i turned it off for a while it eventually came up and started working again.

does anyone know why these mods would have been done ( i guess the old ecu was screwed up?) but is there anything in common w/the head sensor, tach and air regulator element? what does the ecu do w/the tach (if anything). thanks,

.....s
