Sumo
I have a friend who keeps losing his oil cap on a small block 400. Everytime he gets on the throttle it pops the cap off. But if he accelerates normally to speed it stays on ok. This only started after a homejob mexican rebuild, after that we noticed oil coming out of the valve cover gaskets so then we put one of those vent pipes you get from summit for racing engines. It doesnt spew out oil that much but it does blow it out sometimes. Anybody have any idea whats wrong?
Guest Anonymous
Does it use a PCV valve to somewhat vacuum the extra pressure back into the intake manifold? Usually a vent (outside of maybe roundy rounders and drag cars) would use a vent on one cover and a PCV valve on the other? I think if you do that you'll probably solve the problem, I can't imagine why its building up that much pumping pressure in the crankcase unless its just not venting enough. Good luck with it. Guest Anonymous
Check to see if the valve is ok, also look at the hose, there should be no reason for this, but perhaps its kinked closed, or has a obstruction in it? Oh well, sorry this sounds like a perplexing one. Regards, Lone
Sumo
Oh yeah, i forgot to say that it does have a pcv and we use a vented oil cap on the other and it still popped the vented cap off. Thanks for the suggestion though.
