Which rearend? R180? Jag? Ford? R200?

I am just starting my plans for my "new" rearend. I don't want to ever worry about the stock R180 or even the R200 or R230 breaking. I want a REALLY strong rearend so I NEVER have to worry about it when driving hard or at the strip every now and then. (never is an interesting word...)

I want to reinforce the rear "frame" (if you can call a unibody that) to support what ever I choose. I have been looking at these options:

1. Jag rearend. This shouldn't be too hard, but hub to hub is a little long. Even with the Velo Rossa body kit I want, it would be difficult. (53" vs. 62")

2. Heavy Duty 9" IRS. CWI does custom jobs from 49" to 65". They could make a do one for the exact size i want. I'm thinking 56" hub to hub.

3. RCC IRS system. Theirs is 59" hub to hub. Thats only 3" on each side which should fit under the Velo Rossa kit. I am leaning toward this option.

4. Straight axle. I dont' want to do this. :-(

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about these setups? Thanks in advance for your ideas!

(I know most of you are running the R200 or R230, but I never want to even think about the rearend when hitting the NOS.) :-)

This topic has been nicely discussed before. The information is in the archives and can be gleaned from using the search function. I know you will find it helpful! :)

The R200 won't give you any worries--it's the half shafts that you have to be careful of. Usually the U-joints are what breaks in a sticky launch situation. Do some reading and you'll find all you need...

Thanks for the link. I spent a few hours searching through the forums on this topic. I have read that before, and it was an interesting article.

However, I noticed that there wasn't much mention of any Ford 9" or any of these kits I found. I know many use the R200 w/o problem, but I still don't fully trust it. (You haven't seen me drive!) :-)

The Corvette suspension, from what I have read, isn't a very ueful option because of its width. (64") That is almost a foot wider than stock! I don't want one wider than 59".

Has anyone ever heard of or used any of these kits? Has anyone ever used a Ford 9"? I have only found one reference to someone using a 9", but it had 4-link reared. (No thanks!)

Anyone?
