Guest jdllaugh
Is there any reasonably easy/inexpensive way to disable the VATS system on an LS1? I've bought a '99 LS1 to drop into my '72 240z and am trying to make a list of all the mountains I will have to bulldoze to get this project on the road. I'm resisting the idea of spending $550 for LS1 Edit, although that expense may be a minor mole hill ahead.
Guest Anonymous
If your only needing the VATS taken off, then I'd just send it to someone who removes it, I'm not sure, but I think its like 100-150 bucks? Of course if you intend a bunch of big mods that are going to require drastic tuning changes, the other option then might be more cost effective. Just an opinion. Guest Anonymous
The other two options are: If you have the VATS stuff, you can try various resistors on the wires that go to the key, and eventually will find one that works. Search the net for recommended values. (that's all the thing in the key is anyway) The other option is to simulate the signal that the VATS module is supposed to send to the ECU. Basically you wire up a 555 oscillator to put out 60hz or something around there, and wire the output to your VATS input on your ECM. Believe it or not the parts only cost about $5 at Radio Shaft . Again, search the net. I've seen this somewhere and they described the 555 circuit and the desired frequency. It actually accepts a moderately wide range, so it shouldn't be hard to get.
