Guest Anonymous
I've been having some trouble with the brakes in my '79 280ZX ever since I bought it. The brakes were never very good so I replaced the pads about 6 months ago and it didn't really seem to fix anything. So a couple of weeks ago I decided to do the master cylinder and front hoses, so after a hone and new seals in the master I bench bled it as well as I could and then put it on the car, now for some reason the brakes are worse than when I got the car. I've bled the whole car 3 times now and the pedal still goes about 3/4 of the way to the floor before anything happens. After the bleeds the pedal gets better for 1 or 2 drives and then goes bad again. Can anybody offer any light to my problem? The car is a bit dangerous to drive the way it is. Guest greimann
When you say the brakes are't very good, what exactly is the problem? What kind of driving are you doing? For your spongy pedal, you obviously still have air in the system. Bleeding can be fruitless unless you are following the proper technique. Bleed the calipers that are farthest away from the master first. For a left hand drive car the order should be RR, LR, RF, LF. When doing the bleeding, you will need to get the sequence correct too: open bleed press pedal and hold close bleed raise pedal repeat until no bubbles flow from a clear tube atached to the bleed. A Mityvac can help if you are trying to do this on your own.
