Guest 1fastz
that totaly depends on what your definition of Z is .. there are low 8 second cars but they have tube frames and are realy nothing but a Z body on top of a new tube frame etc.. if you mean by Z still independant rear.. then it breaks down into two parts.. stock r-200 rear ? i know of three high and mid nine second z mine included If you mean imdepentant rear I would say i should have that tied down here in about 2 months when I hit the track with my new motor and q-45 rear.. i exspect high 8s on street legal tires. Guest 1fastz
again as I said thats a guted race car with a tube frame back half job ive seen side pics of that cars it has a four link 9 inch rear and coilovers in a custom built rear frame.. it does however have a inline 6 but that inline 6 has as much in comon with the stock Z motor as my v8 does we have two members here on the board one with a big block and one with a small block who run low 8s with hybrid Zs
jap tin
Z cars go in stages. First you have a stock 240Z, then you start to tweak the 6 cylinder and suspension. Thats cool for a while then a guy in the bay area starts selling Scarabs with V8 chevys in them and your 6 cylinder looks weak even with those cool webbers you just had to have. You find out you can get the kit from him and put your own small block in your Z. You buy a 300 dollar Impala and do the swap. Everything is fine till you get used to the power and want more power. You start building hotter engines and put the hurts to every car you find out on the road. Then one of your buddies tells you your car may go around corners but he would smoke you at the drag strip. So you go to the Friday night drags and get hooked. Then you need a roll bar, then a cage, then you can't run 10's with the irs so you backhalf a Z and put a bigger engine in that Z. Then before you know it your going to fast for that homebuilt backhalf job and you get serious and build a tube Z car. Its got to stop somewhere, maybe when Selzi dumps the Celica and goes with a Z car. You always want to go faster and if you do it long enough you will go down the same road. A friend is talking about putting his 632 big chief nitrous engine in my Z but with a 95 inch wheelbase I don't know if my old man reflexes could handle that. Guest 1fastz
my new v-8 engine just dynoed 1234 horses and im staying INDEPENDANT rear with a 12 point cage but other then that my toyota front brakes and the fact i put in a r-230 instead of my r-200 < wich i ran until mid nines > its all stock datsun baby even down to the coils and the shocks... by the way buy putting cv shafts in the rear you are legal for 8s.. just ask any serious front drive import drag racer.. Cvs dont fly apart like a ujoint when they break they spin inside themself..
Guest triple_threat311
oh man, all this talk about times is making me excited. I want to go work on my car right now. I have a 280z 2+2 and I just pulled the motor out. I have converted the front to the larger 4 piston calipers and I have put the rears to disc. I have done all of the suspension bushings and replaced the u-joints with cv joints. I am getting coilovers and a solid differential mount. I also purchased my motor and am geting a t56 to back it with. My motor is a 434 sbc that makes 750 at the flywheel. my autoshop teacher won't let me spray it yet so that is about the most i will have for a while (im only 17). what times do you guys think i will be ending up with when i finish? I am hoping for at least low elevens. anthony
Guest 1fastz
if your motor honestly makes 750 horses try more like High nines.
