Guest bigjim240z
ok..freind of mine has a 1975 280z. he recently removed his performance springs and has them sitting becuase he installed coil overs. now i can buy them cheap, but i have a 73 240z. the motorsports catalog shows 1970-1974 having one type of spring and 1975-1977 having another type. i cant see them being that much different. whats the difference?..are they just longer, or thicker coils or what? can i get these springs since they will be very cheap and just mod them or the strut housing to fit my 240z? thanks for any help!...jim
Guest zline
the later Z strut housing has a larger diameter than the 240Z, you could just switch to 280 uprights and use them, but by the time you do all that you could have bought a set of correct springs. =)
Guest bigjim240z
so is that for both front and rear?...so your saying just the strut housing (the part that the strut cartiridge slides into) its different..but the 280z housing will bolt up to the 240z and everything would work?..i have a parts 280z in my back yard so i have whats needed and it wont cost me anything. if this is the case ill buy his springs and swap everything over. thanks and please let me know if im correct here..jim
Guest zline
yes the 280z cases are larger, swapping the whole 280z suspension assembly over will allow you to use the springs.
ianz
not to step on Zline's toes here, but I think the 280 springs are the same diameter as the 240, the rears are just longer. I have seen people use the 280 springs on the 240 to give it a nose down rake rather than the standard rear squat....... Also, I don't think the 280 suspension is interchangable with the 240 given that the 280 has taller rear strut towers, but I may be wrong... either way, if you plan to throw new stiff springs on, I HIGHLY recommend doing urethane bushings and tokico struts while your in there otherwise you just wind up with a stiffer riding unresponsive Z.... good luck with it either way.... Guest bigjim240z
well i want t us the springs, but the whole reason for it was to get a lowered stance. a 240z with gaps between the wheel and fender just doesnt look good to me. i plan on doing a complete suspention setup, struts, bushings, springs and sway bars. i guess i would just be better off buying the new springs for the 240z. i dont want to make this a huge project. thanks for all the advice guys..jim
