Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
I am planning on building a real TBI setup for my 280ZX engine. (Not port injection). I am going to pull the parts from the local wrecking yard (TB, ECU, sensors, wiring harness etc.). Does anyone have any experience with carb to tbi conversions? (Any eng, not necessarily L6.) It looks like that is what a lot of you have done for your V8 conversions. In particular I will probably need help selecting parts and help programming the EPROM. Anyone able to help? z-ya
Are you going to use the aftermarket L6 4 barrel carb manifold? Sounds like a good place to start. Pete
Drax240z
Is there any reason TBI wouldn't work horizontally? I'd investigate that before buying a 4 barrel manifold. The 90* bend in the typical 4 barrel setup for the Z's (taking a downdraft carb into a sidedraft engine) doesn't sound optimal to me. Good luck! Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Is there any reason TBI wouldn't work horizontally? No reason that I can think of. As far as I know TBI can work at any angle (*that's why it is so popular for off-roading crawlers n such). I was thinking of getting two small TB's and making an adapter plate to mount up to the twin SU manifold.
Guest rick458
take good pictures and share what you find I am thinking (long term) about a similar system but TPI with a common plenum for all 6 cylinders
DAW
Assuming you're talking about dual TBs attached to a stock dual SU intake, take a look at Mitsubishi smaller 4cyl turbo cars (like 1.8L, etc), Tredias and such. You could also consider using two TBs with throttle plates removed (retain the injectors) on the SU manifold, piped into a common plenum with a single TB feeding them both in order to keep synchronization problems to a minimum. Maybe it's possible to pirate an entire engine mgmt system from the TB donor car and circuit-in a "shadow" duplicate TB/injector(s) to get the system going if you're budget is limited.
