260Z ignition electronic or Points?

I am confused is the ignition in my 260Z electronic from the factory or is it originally a points setup?

I have an electronic module in the pass footwell up by the airbox, but have an old style coil with resistor on the fenderwell

if it is electronic will a MSD 6AL work well with it

or the crane setup? the plug gap is .035"

Pull the distributor cap and see if there are points. If you have the ignition module then the only way that you have points is if someone replaced the dissy. An MSD will work fine with any distributor. MSD 6AL is what I am using in my early 260 with electronic ignition.

spotfitz; what kind of performance improvements did you find

and how much were you able to increase your gap and timing

 

I honestly have not touched the timing save for new wires and plugs

I put new Denso's in and timing wise she runs fine and now I believe

I have the flattops running right I just need "More Power"

Alot better idle and a higher rpm was what I found going with the MSD 6AL. I finally gapped mine to .040
