Guest 240zxt
Hey guys, Im doing a senior exit on the best engine swap for my 72 240. I wanted to compare about 3 or 4 different engines, and show which one is the best for my application. I was going to do the L28ET, Chevy 350, and the RBs. I dont want to start a debate, but would anyone suggest a different 3 or 4 engines to compare? I'm also planing on the L28ET being my engine of choice. Would any of you know of some good published sources that would be good? I have the article from "Sport Z Magazine" about the L28 swap and I'm going to order the JTR manual as well. Another thing that I could really use some help on is if there is one "Ultimate HybridZ Member " that has done many of these, or other swaps, I would really like to interview them. It would simply be an e-mail with a few questions. If anyone can help me with some good sources or an interview, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to all! A. G. Olphart
And all this time I thought the 'senior exit' was the door on the far side of the stage, diploma in hand. So educate an Olphart- what is a "senior exit"? My guess would be a science/logic sort of thing; if so, you will have to define your parameters for success (desired outcome/cost effectivness/ease of construction and such) very carefully to jibe with your preconceived results. Otherwise your research into other combinations may surprise you by leading to a different conclusion. Am I close? Personally, I like small block V8's- Chev 350, Mopar 360, Mustang 5 liter. RPMS
Damn - a position paper on the BEST swap? You ain't very ambitious, are you? Opinions on this board are like buttholes - everyone's got one, and most of them stink. I think there's at least a half dozen "right" answers, depending on what you want to do with the car. For me, the best solution was the Chevy 350. Relatively inexpensive, relatively powerful, and it is by far the best documented swap. If you want to road race the car, the turbo 280 setup is tough to beat. Plenty of grunt up high, and a redline that you can scream out of corners without having to shift so soon as you might with a low revving 8 in the same price range. And the sound? Oooh, la la! Hit 7k rpm with an inline six, and your ears will spontaneously orgasm. If you're looking for the best of both worlds and you don't mind fabricating your own conversion stuff, you might try the lighter-weight Ford V8 setup. For drag racing, there ain't no substitute for cubes (apologies to Scotty and our other 1/4 mile runners!) and you might as well go with a big block Mopar. I guess what the best thing to do in your circumstance would be to pick the best documented three swaps of widely differing types so the "compare and contrast" would be easy, and you'd have plenty of backup for any of the three positions. I'd suggest the Chevy 350 representing the V8 crowd, the Turbo L28 for the inline 6, and an RB for the hot turbo 4. That way you'll be right no matter what direction you swing, and your teacher will love your paper.
randy 77zt
if car is used for a work car i would run a turbo 6-good gas milage.if it is a weekend car only i would run v8.
Guest 240zxt
A senior exit is pretty much a 6 to 10 page paper that i have to write that proves a point, along with a presentation. Sorry for not specifying!
A. G. Olphart
A little like what I'd guessed. All of us on the board love your subject matter, but as the guys mentioned, the answer depends a lot on the individual and the expected vehicle usage. (I'll admit their terminology was more pungent). Good luck in setting your goals/expectations and demonstrating how your dream setup takes you there
