Drax240z
102 mph is pretty damn fast for any car, let alone an open cockpit lotus super 7... powered by a hayabusa 1300cc motorbike engine. 185hp/105ft-lbs in a car that weighs 1076lbs wet. Oh, 102 mph isn't that fast you say? Well... how about in reverse? A local company http://www.super7cars.com was putting on a show at a local airport, complete with police, press, etc. in an attempt to set some records. And set them they did. This is now the fastest production car for sale in Canada, and damn respectable elsewhere as well! Records today: In completely stock trim, road tires, spare tire, etc. right down to the insurance papers in the glove box: 0-60mph: 3.87sec 1/4 mile: 12.4@108mph 100mph-0mph: 29.6m or 100ft. Unbelievable. (and I didn't believe it watching it, so I know you aren't going to believe me reading it) With 10" hoosier racing rubber on the back, windshield removed, spare tire removed: 0-60mph: 3.28sec 1/4 mile: 12.08@106mph Top speed in reverse: 102.4mph The car uses an additional set of gears for reverse, because of course the hyabusa doesn't have reverse. Using this gives the car 6 speeds in reverse, hence the high speeds attainable. It was driven by the engineer/owner of the company and crewed by his son. And if you want a 7 replica with lots of show and go, its only $43,000 canadian which is about $30,000US. It is also a bit larger than the origional 7, designed for people up to 6'5" and 250lbs. A fun day at the airstrip!
Heavy Z
Wow, that is a great deal on a monster car.
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
I plan to make something like that in the future. I will probably have a little rotary though The kits for those are only about $12,000 US, if I remember correctly. Comes with everything except drivetrain
CruxGNZ
That is way cool! Was the guy driving in reverse, using one hand to steer and the other to hold onto the backrest of the pass. seat while looking backwards? That thing must have been twitchy at those speeds in reverse. Does anyone remember the video posted here with the yellow 7 that had twin 'Busa engines controlled by twin Motecs, that was trying to set a word record of 0-60? He did it at like 2.87 seconds if I remember right, then one of the engines let loose. THAT was awsome! !M!
Drax240z
The twin kawasaki 1100 car was called the tiger. It did 0-60mph in 2.97 seconds. (AWD mind you) The driver for this record attempt said he just concentrated on a point on the horizon, looking forwards the entire time while driving backwards. He could tell by his position on the runway if he needed to correct. Very difficult to drive were his words. The hardest part was stopping though, he basically had to swap ends 180 degrees after slowing down a bit otherwise he was cooking the rear brakes. (which typically do about 20% of the stopping on a car) The day was cut short after some gross displays of horsepower with a broken chain. Guest bastaad525
Kit cars rock... I have a dream of building a 427 Cobra replica some day... they're really not that expensive, well, the kits... man those are awesome cars when they're done right though. 7's with rotaries are cool there's a guy with one down at the RC flying field he babies it though I doubt the gas pedal on it has ever come close to the floor.... dsommer
Anybody wanting to build a kit Cobra MUST see Factory Five Racing. IMHO they have the best set up going. I love Cobras but I've absolutly gone head over heels for their new spyder GT. I want to finish up the Z, drive it for a year or so and oder this kit... Oh the love... Yes Z's are nice but this car is the Schit to me. http://factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/spyder/spyder.html ds
