Guest BigWhyteDude
i posted a few pics of an old civic with a 350 converted to rear wheel drive. Its not daily driver material however. most of the engine is in the cab. ill email you the pics if you like just im me and ill do it by the way its really gonna require you to do alot of fab work. if you arnt that skilled in metal working then i dont think its a good idea. RPMS
Hey, CSTurbo! I *really* want to ask you WHY you prefer converting the civic over the 240, but that's none of my business, so don't feel compelled to answer. I guess it's pretty much the same thing most other hybrid folks feel - a fondness for one particular body style, combined with an insatiable need for more power. I've seen pictures of the car BWD's talking about, and he's right - it's hardly something you want your great aunt Ethyl driving down to the store in to get some milk! I think your greatest challenge will be moving the firewall back to allow space for the engine and transmission. And once you move the firewall back, you move the dash back (if you keep it, that is) then you move the seats back, etc. etc. etc. You know, I can't remember anyone converting a transverse front wheel drive 4 cylinder car into a longitudinal V8 daily driver. Everything I've seen, Porsches, Jags, Austins, Datsuns, Volvos, etc. have been longitudinal from the start. It makes the engineering SO much simpler. Oh, and this thread probably belongs in the "other engines" section
Guest CSTurbo240
well, the reason being is i like a challenge and i figured converting a '90 civic hatch into a RWD V8 would be pretty challenging. and i don't prefer it over my Z, my Z has a whole diff setup planned for it. Im going to attempt to take the entire engine/drivetrain from a Skyline GT-R, and hook it up to the Z. well, can't think of much else to say haha. so till next time....................... peej410
im looking to do the same with my 98 maxima, i love the motor but the only rwd tranny that i know of that will bolt up is a pathfinder unit and they are $$$ and rare . the maxima already has a solid beam rear suspension setup with trailing arms, two more arms added would make it a fierce four link, it would involve intense modification to the firewall and exhaust tunnel. Im a fabricator though so for me its just more fun look online take measurements of stuff. i know for a fact that the v8 will not fit under the hood of a crx, you will need a huge cowl, the only reason id ever consider a swap like that is for the ultimate sleeper. a huge cowl hood doesnt really file into the sleeper category, good luck -pete
