Guest Maxwell
This is my first post, I've been reading from the board for about 4 months, and have learned a lot. I've also been able to start forming a good idea as to what I want to do to my 73 240z. Now I have some questions... The T56 was bolted to the ls1, but what has to be done for it to be bolted to another older 350? I've read something about a rear main seal problem... Second question: What's the widest wheel I can put on my z? ( just joking ) Thanks for any help. Max

If you are, that tranny will not bolt to an older 350. If you want a t56 for an older 350 you need one from '93 to '97. The '93 is good for 400#tq, the '94 to '97 is good for 450#tq. You also need a special flywheel for a 2 piece rear seal engine. Centerforce makes one for around $260.00, you can also use their clutch assembly, but they run about $550.
jeromio
So, you have a 98 or newer, LS1 T56 that you can't use? Wanna sell it?
Guest Anonymous
You really hate how big that automatic is don't ya Jeromio? J/K If your asking, the T56 showed up behind LT1 motors starting in 1993, a version with a deeper overdrive and slightly more torque ability started in 1994-1997 when the LS1 came out which was a clean sheet of paper so the bellhousing to that one was exclusive to the LS1. The two piece main was from (was it 85 or 86?) backwards to 1955 and to use the T56 requires use of a centerforce flywheel which runs about 260.00. Thats if you were asking for details, if you have a LS1 tranny and you have a older two piece main, you may just want to sell it to some one, not sure who that might be. Regards, Lone Ps: Geez Lone, read Mike Kz's post and you could have saved some typing, sorry for duplicating information, but then I'm known for that... Dan Juday
"Second question: What's the widest wheel I can put on my z? ( just joking )" This is: 305/50/15 Well, you asked. Some slight modifications may be necessary.
jeromio
Yes. I am really not looking forward to wrestling with this thing once again so I can further humiliate my trans tunnl to allow for its excessive girth. To top it off, we just got my wife a Contour SVT which has a 5spd and it's killing me to think that when I'm done with this project (well, when it's drivable again that is), her car is potentially gonna be zippier and more fun to drive!! So now I'm on the hunt for an LS1 T56 and some more debt....
