Guest m35514h
My torque converter bearing apparently went out sending shards of metal through my transmission ending in its death. I was pretty upset, but i found out that Phoenix transmissions has a 1 year warrantee no questions asked. Apparently my dad only filled the TC with 4 quarts of trans fluid, and it needed 7. I already have a new transmission and hopefully the car will be going on friday. I was wondering if you guys think that my car will shift better/put down power better with the full 7 quarts in the TC?
jonzer12
Um..yes, you need the fluid for a reason, you can definetly notice if you are low or have the wrong fluid.
Pyro
You can't fill a torque converter with out special transmission equiment. However, you can and should only pour in 1 quart into the converter when it is new. The rest of the fuild is added to the converter by the transmisson pump. So, by adding fluid to the transmission pan, the trans pump will pump fluid into the converter. Depending on the diameter of the converter, it will hold about 5 to 7 quarts and the pan will hold 3 or 4 quarts. If the fluid level in the transmission pan was at the right level on the dip stick then the converter had all the fluid it needed. Furthermore, an automatic transmission 3 quarts down will hardly move. So I think you most likely had some other problem than low on fluid in the converter. One thing to be careful of is that stupid TV cable. The cable increases line pressure during acceleration and if it isn't adjusted right, it kills the transmission and converter. As for me, I will never own another 700R for as long as I live. I hope you have better luck than me. I finally installed a GM T5 and was much happier. Guest Night_rider_383
IMO I think your prob is somewhere other than the fuild. I could be wrong, I have been before, but I just can'tsee how it was moving good enough for you to drive it, or shifting out at all 3 qt. low. I have a th-400, and when I 1st dropped in the engine and tranny. I was 2 qt. low on trans fuild and it would'nt even catch gear and move in the yard. It just acted like it was in park, engine free wheel reving
Guest Perry
DO NOT drive that new 700 until you have someone knowledgeable setup the TV cable for you. you can ruin that trans in a mile or so if line pressure isn't high enough because of improper TV setup. Maybe Keith (383240z) can help with some instructions? Perry
Guest m35514h
i know my tv cable set up is very close to being correct, and this was my first suspect to the problem, but i did not change it when i got my new edelbrock carbeurator so i think that the reason could be the fact that i did not change the tv setup for the new carb
