Guest Pegasus76
How do you propose you take off the Belt which spins the clutch fan and the alt? Do you have to remove the Fan? I have a 76 280Z with a chevy 350 and one belt runs everything basically and the only way I can see you can take off the belt is by cutting it or removing the fan..But if I cut it how do you install without removing the fan? Or can you?
DavyZ
There should be a bolt you can untighten that slides the alternator enough to loosen the fan belt enough you can then take off the pulleys, and then should slip right over the fan from that point. Guest Anonymous
Yeah, it will be adjustable, look at the alternator, it'll become obvious what to take loose to make the belt slack. On a related subject, you CAN get a inner belt behind without loosening the outside belt. The belt is placed 90 deg to the belt that is already on the outside. The idea is to make the outside belt run over the new belt thus trapping half the belts leg behind the belt already on the pulley. I know this is confusing but it works a treat. I learned that of all places from a IBM printer mechanic that used to fix our giant laser printers. Just the sort of trick when your car spits a belt on the side of the freeway and you don't want to take exta things loose. Another mistake I made on mine and corrected, also you want two belts going around the crank and water pump if possible, I had one belt going, and you lose it and all of a sudden the car's overheating etc. Just insurance IMHO, I run two now, one around the crank, waterpump and alterator, and one around the pump, crank and A/C compressor.
