Guest jeff1216
Is there any advantage to using stock rods and flat top pistons with an LD crank in my L28 or do I need to go with a bore and bigger pistons?

Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
You would need to shave about .015" off the pistons and use two headgaskets to get the minumum .035" piston to head clearance. Spray both sides of the headgaskets with copper sealant and they won't leak. If you use an unshaven N42 head you will be at 10.6:1 CR.If you use an unshaven P90 you woud be around 9.2:1 CR. You could easily shave the P90 head up to .080" and be well over 10:1 CR. The shorter rods will build slightly more mid and low range torque but slightly less high rpm HP. BTW I have run this setup for 4 1/2 years, but with stock dished pistons and a .070" shaved N42 head. The combo runs high 12's @ 106-107 mph in the 1/4 mile with the modifed factory Dual SU carb's. later, norm
