Phyte
I just bought an early 74 260z, and it had the nasty flat top carbs on it. The car did come with an early set of SU carbs(4 screw). I've got them all bolted and hooked up, except for the linkage which is too short. I've adjusted the thumb screw at the bottom starting at the top, 2.5 rev's down on each one. I choked them up but I can't get it to start! Its getting fuel. The old flat top carbs ran, so its no other problems. Any other suggestions? Do I really need the linkage to make it start up. I opened the butter fly's about 10% trying to get it to start up. Help! Phyte
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Depends on what part of the linkage you are talking about. If you are talking about the linkage on the carb itself that is needed for the choke to work. If you are just talking about the linkage between the two carbs then that is not needed, but it may not run correctly as there is no way to balance the two carbs. I can upload some pics of my carbs or email them to you if you need them. What is happening when you try to start? Is it firing at all? Did you pull off the float caps to make sure that the bowls are filling with fuel? Did you check to make sure the pistons in the carbs are moving freely?
