A tale of two turbo's

Musta been some kind of Z meeting today and I missed it...Saw a little pack of 1st gen Z's cruising down near Van Nuys Blvd. today... Tried to catch up to them but traffic was thick... ended up one of them took the same turn as me and I caught up to him at a light... would have asked if I missed some meeting but I was more interested in the sneezing sound that his car kept making

Asked him if he had a turbo in it and he gave me that "you caught me" grin. It was a 280z with a pretty nice body kit on it. Didn't talk much but he caught my ear when he told me he was running an N42 head and flat tops  . The higher compression didn't help him though :twisted: ! We raced to 40mph twice from red lights and we were even off the line til boost came on and both times I would pull a car ahead of him before hitting second and pulling on him hard after that. He did tell me he was only running 8.5 psi (to my 10psi) though due to the fact that he still had a stock clutch and it wouldn't hold more than that... I know he's got a few hundred pounds on me too but he did have the heavy bumpers removed and I did have my 165lb girlfriend in the passenger seat so I figure maybe 200-300lbs difference at most. He was also running an I/C whereas I am not, so I figure that would bring us even closer together... and dont forget the much higher compression. After he told me that I'm surprised he didn't at least have me off the line. Anyways, a satisfying 'kill' for me... was cool to run with a little pack of Z's for a few blocks too, everyone smiling and nodding to each other. And the race was a good reference for me to feel like my car must be running pretty well after all, to pull so hard on a very closely comparable car. Not to mention being damn fun :)

Iam suprised he didnt blow his head gasket or the head... :bonk:

Did you find up what kind turbo setup he was running...?

Cause my brother had a 280z with one of those 80's turbo kits it was really cooly shame it blew the headgasket right when we got out of the bodyshop after a fresh paint job!!! We were racing with the caprice we had :D rather then fix it my brother sold it and was a big loss! If he only knew to get the a different head and thicker headgasket. The problem with the car was the computer it was this 80s thing it was really f*cked up nwayz.....I miss it

nah I didn't really get to talk to him more than few moments, I have to assume he's doing SOMETHING fuel wise to support that compression (something like 10:1) at 10psi. If he's running something programmable I'm even more surprised I took him out so badly....
