Guest PBooty
I'm new to the ignition game, so I appoligize if my questions aren't up to par. I'm thinking of upgrading my ignition to multispark and I was wondering if I could be done one step at a time. Can I change the blaster coil first and leave the rest for later? Or does it all need to be done relatively together? Do I need anything besides ignition box, blaster coil, distributor and wires? Do i need a balast resistor? If changeing only the coil is possible, would it be necessary to adjust the timing? As always, any general help and suggestions would be appreciated. Guest butlersZ
Well if you want to do it in steps I would say Wires, Coil, then ignition. When you swap out your coil you shouldn't need to adjust the timing at all. And for a ballast resistor, you shouldn't need one of those either because when your upgrading your ignition your obviously going to use a system designed for 12 volts. On the pre'74 Z's the distributor used points and they used the ballast resistor to lower the output of the coil so they wouldn't fry the points. So if your have a 240 then find and electronic distributor and proceed from there. My '74 260 has an electronic distributor from a '77 280. I first bought MSD wires because the stock wires were small and worn out. Then bought an MSD Blaster SS coil along with the MSD 6AL ignition box. The wires should be first in my opinion because stock wires might not handle the higher output of an upgraded ignition box and or coil. Hope that helps. Guest miloz31
You should always check your timing after installing a MSD INGNITION BOX or other ingnition box.
