Guest ckmoss01
Hi: I am just getting my feet wet with a recently purchased 77Z w/ 350SBC. One issue I seem to have is the valve cover breathers, which are K&N brand with a "universal" gasket. These are a huge pain to remove and replace when I have to add oil, and I am wondering what, if any, are my alternatives? Upon replacing them after adding oil, I smush the things down so much, I'm not sure if it is worth it. Also, what is the effect of dual breathers compared to having a PCV on one side and breather on another? Does this enhance or detract from performance? I seem to reach a "flat spot" in the upper rev ranges, but I suspect something else is the culprit. FWIW, my valve covers appear to be standard "CHEVROLET" covers, not the tall covers favoured by Grumpy. Thanks for all of the help! Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
If your valve covers only have one hole on each, you may want to look for a breather that will screw in just like how an oil cap screws in. This will have the ease of removal like an oil cap, but still have the benefit of being a breather. I am not aware of any real benefit of having the filler side have a breather instead of a cap, however.
