Guest gtmattz
Oky... this is another question relating to my GMC pickemup i got a new distributor in it and everything is working great, theres just one minor niggle when im crusing in town at 30-40mpg im constantly going from 0 throttle to just a tiny part-throttle, well i seem to getting a pronounced surge when i slightly open the throttle, and with the tuck gearing being super low, it makes me look like someone whos never driven a clutch before.. could this just be the gearing causing this? or is the accelerator pump doing its job too well? just a minor annoyance but i would like to get it cleared up, carb is an edelbrock performer 600cfm manual choke. thanks in advance from any of you carb guys. PS this is actually KIND of Z related, as this is the engine that will be going into my 280 once im done with the body..
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
when im crusing in town at 30-40mpg If you are getting 30-40 mpg, why complain? I assume you meant mph. Does the throttle feel like it sticks at all? In my Z, the throttle shaft is a little worn and the butterfly sticks when I open the throttle sometimes. Other than that, and drivetrain slop, I havent heard of anything like this. I suppose it could be the accelerator pump, but I would lean more towards it just being a dirty carb. I'd try cleaning it out really good and run some fuel system cleaner in the gas and see if that helps smooth out the flow.
Guest gtmattz
hmm, good suggestions.. the throttle linkage is pretty solid, not really any slop there and its definitely not sitcky, and i cant really see the carb being dirty, as its only got about 200 miles on it rigth now (i bought it new) and i have it double filtered (one before the fuel pump and one after, i didnt want to void the warranty on the carb ) but I might crack it open and have a look just to be certain. and yes i did mean mph, just have mpg on the mind as im going from driving a 28mpg avg 200sx to this beast thats been getting about 12 so far lol (This is just temporary until I get one of my econo cars back on the road, I just hope she doesnt eat all the cash I am going to need to get my other car going lol) anyway, I ramble.. thanks for the advice Nic-Rebel.
