Guest ZmeFly Posted December 4, 2003 Share Posted December 4, 2003 I have a problem with my idle on my 83 ZXT when the car has warmed up. It tends to for a lack of a better word surge I would guess to be the best description. What happens is once the car is warm and Ive driven threw the gears for the first time once its warm while at idle it will bounce a bit, the idle goes from 750 to about 500 and back up again. Almost acts like a miss. Whats new is O2 sensor, wires, plugs, fuel filter, cap and rotor. Cleaned air filter, oil is fresh, havent done anything new to the car at all. All I can think it to be is maybe a bad injector or??? I have no clue, it runs great threw the gears and while going down the road. Mileage hasnt been affected. Im just at a loss. Any ideas? innerware Posted December 4, 2003 Share Posted December 4, 2003 I had a problem similiar and it was with my 78 280. Since the engine is similiar I will tell you what was wrong with it. It was my BCDD valve. I don't know what it is or what it does. But by blocking off the valve it solved the problem. Hopefully others know what it is. Guest De Schmaydee Posted January 5, 2004 Share Posted January 5, 2004 ....except you dont have one.... .... mine (82zxt) has been doing it for about a year.....or ever since i got the JWT ecu & 420cc injs. check the tps and chts...did you take a voltage reading @ the ecu for the o2?.....i did all of that and replaced 'em all too...("0"). i also raised my fp baseline....("0"). but you might want to try those things first. my (420cc) injs are new and are firing but i think 1+ of 'em may not be spraying right.....i have a bunch of stock injs and can loan you 6 to test w/ if you wish..... Going threw the car getting it ready for inspection I had to return to the car a few things the PO had removed to meet visual emmissions devices check. The one thing that I did replace thats actually working (hehe the other stuff is just dummied on to look good) but that was the PCV. The PO had removed it and used a Kand N breather instead. Once I replaced the PCV all things that seemed to gremlin my car disappeared. The stumble/miss is now gone, idle is now perfect as well.
