HEADLAMPS MESSED UP TO ALMOST AMUSING!

Hi. I think that my I/C custom installer cut into part of the left headlamp bucket mount to make hoses fit past, and consequently, when I got the car back, he told me the bulb needed replacing. I agreed with this initially, b/c the right headlamp was functional, but the left only worked on high beam.

This weekend my Z mechanic put in turbo timer and boost controller, working around the steering column to wire. Consequently, both headlamps looked like low power penlight flashlights, and to my knowledge, this wasn't the way at least one of them looked before (the right high beam worked).

I just got the car from a local mechanic who put on the Cibie lamps I had planned to install. The car subsequently wouldn't switch out of high beam, and only the right one was truly normal voltage/brightness! The next start after dinner at Wendy's, I had no headlights at all!! :x

Can anyone give me a clue what to tell the mechanic(s) to do? I have to take it back to the Z tech Friday evening, and he's going to put in headlight relays and avoid the headlamp failure sensor. I don't want that bloody sensor to be blazing red for headlamp failure, however, and I am concerned that the less experienced local tech said such a failure could cause headlights to not work, etc, etc. Has anyone had similar experiences with low voltage drops in lighting, then only one normally functional high or low beam, then no headlights at all? Seems like there's too much shit going on!

Thanks

John

could be possible coincidence that your swithc failed. Or their are wires that lead to the lights that could be damaged. If you search for it there is a great relay conversion the someone did the takes the load off the switch and puts it on two relays. Haven't done it yet but I definately will.

This is the url. Hope it helps,

Unfortunately, the link you provided was for 240-260 etc from the seventies. The wiring on the 280ZXT is substantially different, and that is why the shop that put on the headlamps couldn't follow this one! I'm having my tech put relays on it on Friday!

Thanks anyway

John
