Guest 79 280zx
Hi, I have a 79 280zx coupe. I have a very annoying high pitched whining, (not my wife!)The noise seems to come from the right rear part of my car when I accelerate. This concerned me so I got a 4.11 differential. But the howling continued. I replaced both wheel bearings on the right rear passenger side. It did the same thing. Now I'm getting ventilated cross drilled rotors and new universal joints to rebuild the cv axle. I cleaned up the brake calipers and it didn't seem bad. The high pitched rubbing sound only comes after the car has warmed up and I'm going 40 mph or more and accellerating, when I let off the gas, the whining stops and the car drifts quietly. The sound is the same through gear changes. It also occurs when I slow down and downshift. Another related problem is when I have the car up on stands and the engine is on and in neutral I noted that this wheel begins to move, I can hold it to stop the rotation but it goes on when I let go.
