oatmilk
Hello All, My first post to HybridZ. I've got love for purist and hybrid's. Too many nice cars around to hate. Lifes too short. I got a chance to buy a 1JZGTE (complete engine only) for $700 US. I live in west los angeles. I'm debating between finishing up what I have or going the hybrid route. What I have is a 71 240z(orig, L24 and 4 spd, 2 spots of rust perfect interior, dentless body with Motorsport body kit), 72 240z (nice black paint except roof, rusty pass.side floor pan, stripped interior, good L24 and 4spd) and a 81 280zx turbo (automatic, running). I also have a L28et long block sitting on the engine stand, a stainless steel single turbo header (purchased and sitting for over 10 years), custom built Innovative T3/4 turbo good for 500HP, Tial wastegate, huge custom Spearco I/C (think skyline big and thick), and a box of steel J-tubes for piping and a LD28 crank. Obviously, I got some decent stuff, yet I'm still enamored by the idea of going 1JZGTE, 2jzGTE or SR20DET. My friend at work just picked up his sr20det ($1500 for engine, tranny) to go into his 240z. I love the idea of the SR and going V-mount (radiator and IC). Still I like the way a inline six fills the engine bay. A 1JZgte for $700 sounds almost to enticing to pass up. With the 1JZ I know you have to mix and match trannies unless you get the rare jdm 5 spd that matches it. What to do sell the above and go 1jz? I'm stuck. The fastest car I ever rode in was a 3.0L Cartech FI turbo 240Z so I know I'll be more than satisfied with that. If you you want to help me finish my project and are in the area give me a ring or write. Someone convince me to stay on course. I apologize in advance if you fell I've misposted in the wrong place. thanks all, lk oatmilk@hotmail.com (310) 617-7615
Guest porschephile
As far as a manual tranny, from the research I've done, you can use a w54 from the mk3 Supra or you can use a 2jz 6spd getrag gearbox. The only thing I'm not sure about is I think you need an adapter bellhousing for either gearbox, or else the stock 1jz bellhousing can be used. I'm not too sure. If you are serious about it, go research the supraforums.com There is TONS of info on there. Though, $700 for a 1jz, I would be very careful and find out exactly what kind of condition it's in, parts missing, etc. If I were you, with that L28et stuff already in my possesion I would go that route instead. Get an electromotive TecIII, or some other stand alone setup and you'll have one fast Z.
Guest ON3GO
well theres nothing wrong with the L28ET, i have one being built right now for my Z, but ive been doing my research on the 1JZ.. its a badas motor, and i plan on putting in a SC300 next. if you want something different and plus have a wicked motor with a TON of power to be made then go 1JZ.. you can always drop the L28ET in one of your other cars.. or sell me the header mike

I think im the only person on this board aside from Phil who has personal experience with the 1jz. There's 3 trannies you can use, i had this exact conversation with mike (on3go) like 2 days ago when he was asking me about the 1jz motors. Anyway shoot me a line anytime. Guest FinalRights
Why drop a 1jz in the sc300 when you can just twin turbo the stock engine?
Guest ON3GO
well i like the 1JZ over the 2JZ, and the n/a to turbo swap isnt really all that cheap. its pretty simple to drop in a 1JZ and it came with it from japan in the 1st place. they can make just as much as power as a 2JZ, it sounds better , and rev's higher. its more of a road racing motor. plus i gotta have a hybird mike
majik16106
Why drop a 1jz in the sc300 when you can just twin turbo the stock engine? Why twin turbo an na 2jz, why not a big single?
