Turbo Meister
this is true' date=' but srs are quite durable, and I figured the powerband would be AWESOME for a Z....[/quote'] "Let your wallet be your guide". Hanns
Guest Siddhartha
hmmm, that may be true... I can get an sr motorset for like 1800. I can get an LS1 w/6spd for like 4k (min.). Which tends to hold boost better (ls1 vs lt1), cause if I get a boosted 8, I wanna run lots of boost so I can have SOME use of my tires in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? Basically I'm worried about it still being drivable around town. I don't want it to spool off idle and lose my tires. Plus its wet here alot (orlando), so I'm gonna need all the traction I can get. I dunno maybe I'm thinking too much. Maybe it's stress from finals. I HATE statistics, this is my WORST subject, and not all math either, JUST statistics... tannji
whats the opinion on single turbo setup for the LS1? I may look into this after I have driven it NA for a while. I dont need crazy-sick HP, just a little excessive.... I want to be able to use as a daily driver, and to be able to easily keep boost under control, due to traction concerns. If I go with 375HP and beyond on NA, traction becomes a problem, even in casual driving with the occasional "goose". I like the idea of only getting excessive when developing boost, but I think twins would be a bit much, as I want some of that power available without needing slicks or drag radials. Perhaps single turbo, larger housing so there is some intentional turbo lag?
Guest Siddhartha
thats what I was thinking, the bigger turbo for some intentional lag, forcing the engine to make it's power up in the top of it's revs. That way you get the torque to get yer ass moving and the hp to keep it movin (and not break your car ). Guest JAMIE T
Siddhartha, I don't know you and hope you don't take this the wrong way, but from just reading this thread, If you are even thinking about a SR20DET, you are not ready for a boosted V8. A SR can make 500-600 hp at its prime(i.e., about ready to let go). A turbo V8(350cid) can make that much power while it's still asleep. Guest Siddhartha
Yeah, bt I wouldn't have to worry so much about breaking my shiny new Z with an SR, and I'd probably be better able to put more of the power down. It would also save moven on tires . BTW, I've seen SRs put down 600 hp on the STOCK block. It had cams, but the engine builder didn't even do as much as change the head gasket. And if changing hg/adding forgies + boost isn't enough, I can get a stroker kit made to get 2.2l .
