Guest Pegasus76
I'm new at alot of things on cars...Kinda learn as I go along. I originally bought my Z from an owner who didn't know who put the 350 in the car. So I was wondering how I would go about finding out what kinda cam he put in there and what the compression is in the engine...It seems as if he is suping it up with some performance equipment so I do not know if he did anything with the pistons or cam. So how would I go about finding out the compression and what kinda of cam he set into it?
Guest Anonymous
Hey, The only way to find out what you have in the 350 is to tear it down and check it to see if you have forged or cast pistons flat top or valve relieve cut tops and even then unless you measure the height of the top of the piston from the wrist pin the lengh of the rods and what crank is being used to find out the stroke and have this information available to compare your measurements it is almost impossible to know and then there is the matter of the heads and the size of the combustion chambers and what cc's they are, then unless the camshaft has a number that someone can recognize the only way is to measure the height of the camshaft is not going to happen unless you have someone that is good with a dial indicater to check it and a camshaft timing wheel to check the duration to see what if any over lap there is... Well I hope you get my point, that this is the reason many HotRodders Build their own motors. So they Know what they have!! Sorry unless you find the guy that built the motor and HE tells the TRUTH about what's in the motor you need to drive it till you BLOW it Up and then start from scratch and build one yourself. Hope I helped. Keep burning rubber..
Guest Anonymous
Now do not go tearing that motor apart trying to figure what is in there. Go to some cruise and find some ol Chevy hot rodder and give him a ride and inspection. and he will give uou an idea what he thinks was done with the engine.I replaced my oil pan today. I have one of those numbered 350's that could be a 4 bolt or a 2 bolt.I could have went the rest of my life wondering without any disapointment. Yeah, I got a 2 bolt main blah.I also found out I have itty bitty heads. Some things a guy should never find out.
Guest jdllaugh
You can determine compression with a simple compression tester. Good tool to have anyway.
