I have been reading your site here for the past week or so, because I am set on doing a swap of my own. I have found it very informative, so I have decided to register and ask some questions of my own.

I have a Z that I am going to buy from a co-worker, it is a 79 280, non-turbo. I am planning on throwing in a 383, with a wieand 144 blower. The tranny will either be a turbo 350 or 400, whatever I can find. I plan on doing as much as possible myself, or with the help of friends. So my first question is, will this thing fit under the stock hood?

Anyway, pretty much just introducing myself here.

Welcome! I think everyone will agree that a blower that size will not fit under the hood. Several have (or had) carbs with air filters under the hood of a ZX, but none with a blower.

First of all welcome aboard. I have a 75 280Z with a 350 sbc and a HOLLEY 144 blower/ turbo 350 tranny. Read my posts in my profile and check my pics. in the users gallery. Send me a private e-mail and I will let you know the things to do and not do. To do this right you better have a big wallet :-D . As to the stock hood I have a 5 in scoop with 1/2 in. clearance with it. Good Luck with your project :)

Welcome! It's always good to have confirmation that God's still making other nutballs like us.

As others have said, you don't have a prayer of fitting it under the hood, unless maybe you make it dry-sump and turn it upside down. :D

Hot Rod did a story about a supercharged V8Z buildup two decades ago. They used fuel injection and a low profile supercharger and it cleared the stock hood. A scroll-type supercharger might do the trick, but they ain't cheap. Hell, what am I saying? NO supercharger is cheap!

Good luck, and be sure to keep us posted!

I will definitely. This will be a project that will take into next year. I am going to buy the car soon, for $1000, and drive it on the 6 this summer, while I buy parts. It will be fun.

Welcome aboard! Sounds like a wild build, I have a 383 sbc in my 71 240Z and no blower. It has run 11.30 at 121 and with some tuning and traction aka..60 ft. improvement could go 10's. With a super charger 9's would be in my sites

One word of advise when you get it together..Hang on for dear life :D oh yeah update your life insurance your wife will appreciate it :D

This is going to be a pretty basic motor build, my goal was high 11's for the car, but the blower sounded like way to much fun to pass up. I dont have to worry about the wife issue, im only 20. I was supposed to have my dart block powered Integra GSR by now, but the guy that was doing some of the work for me chopped up the car, and we are trying to sort it out  Since that build up I have been thinking how I dont wanna waste any more time with FWD, and I have always wanted to do a SBC in a Z. Now that the opprotunity is there, I have to take it.
