Who is around? Iowa/Illinois area

Just out of couriosity, now that I have the means to start the work on my Z..... are there any other hybridZ types or even purists in my area? I live in the Quad Cities in Iowa, right on the Illinois border, and not too far from Wisconsin. I wouldnt mind seeing some other Z's this summer, as I have yet to see one single S30 on the road in this area.seen a few ratbox 84/85 300's, and a few 280ZX's, but none older than 79.

For that matter, any construction types in the area? I am leaning towards knocking down my single car, detached garage (circa 1924) in favor of a 2 car plus workshop. I drink good beer and drive a mean BBQ..... lol

It's always nice to find someone 'local,' if local to you means less than 3 hours away. Hi Tannji, I'm Jeff E, from Cedar Falls, IA. How long have you been on the Hybrid Z board?

I've been planning a v8 swap since before I bought my 260, back in 2001 or so. The six in it was (is) running fine, though, so I though that before I started the v8 swap I'd put in some new carpet, fix some rust, paint it, install a sterio, and try to make it into a nice car. Well, I have most of that done now, but still no V8! I'm looking for a LT1/6 speed combo.

Hopefully I managed to post a pic of my car here.

Feel free to contact me if you want to talk. Also, you are closer to Homestead IA than me, so if you happen to be going to A1 imports for some scrap-yard parts, let me know what you find!

Later, Jeff E.

PS The image won't post, so if you want to see my car, go to the gallery at http://www.classiczcars.com and search for BadDriver. It's yellow.

Oh, and I'm no construction worker, but I can lend a hand if you need one.

Hey Jeff, Nathan here, in Davenport.

I have a 240Z with 350 TPI and 700R. Runs nice, good mpg... but there are just enough minor issues with wiring and body that I plan on stripping the body, and redoing or refreshing the majority of it. (not to mention that the body is painted the oddest, ugliest rootbeer with a hint of purple... probably the reason it didnt get vandalized over the winter, while my old Subaru did.) I am also going the LS1 route, altho I am up in the air over the tranny. I really need to drive a F body with the T-56 to see if I like it. I also need to find a rotisserie very soon.... or have one made. where is Homestead? I am not too familiar with the area, have lived here for a couple years, but havent gotten out much. Local yards are a waste of time tho.

From the way this message is dropping off the page, I guess we're the only Iowan's here. I'm a native, where are you from originally?

Homestead is a little west of Iowa City, and the last time I called down to A1 imports there, they had a 'couple' of Z's, although I don't know for sure if they had any good part left. I was looking for an R200 at the time, although now I am saving up for an engine.

I was planning a TPI swap, until I spent enough time on this board to convince me that the LT1 was the way to go. I like shifting for myself, so the T5 or T56 are about the only options, and I figure If I find a complete drop-out I won't have to worry about getting all the parts straight.

If you're planning a rotissery, I'd say you're doing more than 'refreshing' a car, that sounds like a major project! I don't have that kind of ambition right now, but someday if I have the space and the time, I might get my underbody cleaned up. Sorry to hear about the 'rootbeer' color. Mine was originally metalic green, but I like yellow for the controversy it creates. Some people love it, others hate it. Personally, I like it, but there are days I wish I'd gone with black.

LOL, somehow, I didnt really expect too many replies, most of my interests have left me pretty high and dry in Iowa. I moved here from Colorado, but I have lived all over the country. I got my first Z in New York, as well as my first hybridZ. Went about 13 years without a Z, then overpaid for my current 240, but didnt have the patience to wait for a sweet deal, so no major regrets.

I need to call homestead A1, you are the 3rd person to mention it to me in the last week... As far as the rotisserie, my car doesnt really need it, but I want to finally have a car that I did from the ground up, and at the same time, I have experienced Zrot before, and dont want to put a lot of time in the car, only to tear it all down in a few years to recover the body and chassis. I have come across some new products that seem to have more potential than the old standbys we have used for years, like POR15. I want to clean the car up completely, seam-weld, address sub-frame connectors and such, then do some serious rust-proofing. (as opposed to rust delaying) I also want to experiment with some new ceramic products for engine bay, exhaust, chassis, and interior. Most of the SBC Z's I have been in tended to be fairly hot, and I want to prevent that without loading the car up with the normal insulates, which these products would appear to allow. From there I have the usual laundry list: LS1, LSD, Ross C break and suspension components, ect. I recently quit my job to run a business out of the home... Ironically, my newest problem is finding the time to address all the things I need or want to do....

I checked out your Z, after seeing your edit link. Very nice! I have always wanted to go some flavor of obnoxious Yellow, with black detailing, but was always afraid of regret.... I think one of the treatments for my underbody has to be silver-gray, so I am considering some combination of black and gunmetal for the uppers.
