erehemantresni
I just bought an 85' gt 5 speed with 77,000 miles for $500. (no title.) From what i hear the 85' motor is junk. Can the 5 speed be used with newer 5.0's ?
Guest stickaz
http://www.moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/transmission_spec.htm your '85 T5 (if original) is rated for 265 ft/lbs. or torque. Not spectacular, but not a 4-banger tranny either. I have a soft spot for the '85 5.0, last year of the carb, comes with a (600?) cfm holley 4-barrel stock, rated at 210 HP, swap the E6 crappy heads for say AFR-165's and hold on! The '85 has no valve reliefs so you will probably need to make notches (stay away from TFS for these motors as the P/V clearance is even tighter). '85 motor definitely not junk, IMHO, especially if you plan on keeping it largely stock. Other than the carb and pistons without valve reliefs, it's a normal 5.0 roller HO with some crappy truck heads--- like all 5.0 HO motors but the heads are somewhat crappier than the E7's on 87-95 cars.
