Guest porschephile
I think you might be talking about Mckinney Motorsports. I don't really know much about them but, they seem to be very capable. Keep in mind, if they charge ~$7k then you are out $17k! I didn't believe it at first when everyone was saying it takes at least $10k, but they aren't joking. Potentially, you could do it cheaper if you did all the work and found all the best deals. However, that's not going to happen to most people. Eventually I'll post up my MS Excel spreadsheet showing my whole project cost. Damn, I don't even have mine running yet and I've already spent about $9-10k. To have it running, with a few mods (Custom FMIC, exhaust, etc) I'd say $15k. Remember, that doesn't include labor. It's alot more expensive then most people would think. I'm going with aftermarket turbos, engine management and other expensive items as well as rebuilding my rb26, and I am looking at about $20-22k total! If $15k+ is too rich for your blood, I'd say seriously consider an rb25 or even an rb20. The rb20 might not seem worth it to some, however it's better than an l28et and has more potential than any of the n/a l6's. One good thing about the rb20 is it's usually only ~$1k and you could potentially swap one for under $5k if you did the work yourself. Here's a basic rundown of what you are looking at: -rb26 $5-6k -r33 gtst tranny $800 -z32 n/a clutch $400 -aftermarket management $1-2k -custom exhaust/intake plumbing & piping $800 -custom driveshaft $600 -gauges $300 -custom oilpan/pickup $400 That takes care of most of the basics and is about $10k. However, that doesn't even cover the suspension or brake mods you really need to do if you want to properly handle the power. Figure another $1-2k there for fairly simple suspension/brake work. Definitely not for the feint of heart or average Z owner. An rb25 would be a much better choice for most people. 200zr sump - ~$300, BradD mounts - $100 and custom tranny mounts then it will physically bolt in place with mostly plumbing and wiring the only things remaning. Guest Sloparman
Thank you for the info, and good luck with your swap. I have built 3 swaped z all with sbc's in them, i think im goin to go with a mopar this go around before i try one of the tough swaps like a rb25 or 26. Again thanks for the speedy response, thats more then enough ammo for me to win my arguement
