Guest Zachb55
OK, my battery is being obviously overcharged, and my amp meter stays at about half way between the middle and the far right side during idle. The hitch is this: the amp meter goes up with the revving of my engine (just replaced the vreg, shouldnt this stop that?) Also, the worst part is i already went through a battery and now on my second one (along with the new vreg) im seeming to do no better. i think its my alternator but if it is, then why cant my regulator "REGULATE" the output to what it should be? I have a '72, and no one would answer this in my last post, but should i have Fusible links? i can find anything in my entire harness on the engine side that is fused. I have some pics, please look them over, if anything on there looks incorrect, or you can answer one of my questions on the pictures, please do so. sorry about the lenthiness, please help me! imma get my alternator tested tomorrow afternoon. -Zach
Guest Zachb55
I suppose posting the links to the pictures might be useful eh? http://www.240zconversions.com/images/carpics/new/vregwide.jpg http://www.240zconversions.com/images/carpics/new/starter.jpg http://www.240zconversions.com/images/carpics/new/vreg.jpg http://www.240zconversions.com/images/carpics/new/alt.jpg -Zach
Guest 305240
Do a good check of your ground wires. Battery to engine ground, engine to body ground, battery to body ground. I've seen bad ground wires burn a lot of stuff up. IE burnt out headlights, burnt up alts, boi;ling batterys,, ect.
Guest 240zJake
You amp production will go up as you rev the engine, designed to do that, what shouldnt cange to much is your voltage. Check it with the engine running, it should be between 12-14 volts. Could be the problem.
Guest Zachb55
I will go over the grounds again today, but i think swapping in a GM alternator might be the best option if the voltage regulator and such are to blame. If i do go that route i need to have a few of the questions which i have in my above pictures answered. most of all i need to know about the White/red wire going into the vreg. I cant find one in my wiring harness anywhere. not near the vreg pig tail at least. where does that wire go? any help is much appreciated, this one wire could be my whole problem, or maybe it was just unused on 72's, i dont know, but theres one going into the regulator but not one coming out of my harness (see pics please) -Zach
Guest 240zJake
If you can wait till Friday at lunch ( I have graduation ceremonies thursday) I can map the charging system from my wiring harness and let you know for sure. From memory I think that white red went to the ammeter then to the fuse panel and the battery.
Guest Zachb55
well if you look it the picture below, youll see that there is no wire coming from my harness to my regulator. so should i connect the small white/red wire coming from the regulator to the big white/red wire that comes from the alternator and goes to the places you mentioned? should those two be connected? it seems they should... but i havent tried it yet cause i dont want to melt any more wires right yet. http://www.240zconversions.com/images/carpics/new/vreg.jpg -Zach

If you hoked it up to the other voltage reg you would blow something. Im gunna go mess with mine and get you some things to check to see what the prob is. First i would start er up and see what the voltage is from that big red/white wire to ground.
