Guest gbvol54
I know this is off subject but there's a TR7 with a 375 HP Chevy 350 on e-bay. Anyone out there with any knowledge of this sort of conversion? Any of the stock components up the additonal HP (rear end, brakes, for that matter, frame)? Any idea of the weight of a stock TR7? I never really liked the looks of a TR7, but funny how good they look with a 350 stuffed under the hood.......
Guest DRK
Wow! Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1873448363&category=6469 Danny
DavyZ
I owned a TR7 that I was going to do a V6 conversion (a la John's Cars) to, but I decided that a Z would be cheaper and faster in the end (why not go with a V8 in a Z?). So, here is my take on the V8 in the TR7: the V6 is better because of where the weight of the motor is in relation to the front crossmember. The V8 sits waaaaaaay too far forward in this application IMO. I have driven a friend's TR8, but that has a tiny, all aluminum V8 that is 'made' for the car. The Chevy would make a good strip car out of the TR7, but I would pass on this setup if I was planning on doing any kind of road racing with it. Again, this is my opinion having owned one. However, from a swap point of view, it is still pretty neat Davy
Guest gbvol54
Right, but the TR8 used the Rover (former Buick 215 aluminum V8). Smaller, lighter less performance potential. Question remains, can the stock components hold up to 300+ HP? What about front to back weight distribution? Opinions?
Guest gbvol54
Sorry Davy Z. I was typing my reply while you posted. Thanks for the opinions. Agrees with some of my concerns. I'm currently in the middle of a z conversion (stalled due to work on my daugther's '82 Trans Am project) but am in the area of the TR7 owner. Depending on how the bidding goes I may be interested for either parts or a unique "driver". Thanks again.

I liked the TR7 because it was unlike the Japanese and German cars in the "feel" and look of the car. They are more unique and seemed to be pretty solidly built (relatively speaking). I didn't want to deal with Lucas (Prince of Darkness) electrics, so I decided more could be done to the Z. Davy
Guest Anonymous
In agreement with Davey, There has always been persistent rumors from diehard Triumph fans that the TR7 killed Triumph due to mechanical unreliability and electrical problems. Noticed the car had some minor electrical problems. About all the TR7s that I have seen in years were all broke down. I actually liked them. The bidding is low on this one and it looks pr4etty good
deMideon
Do ya know why the British drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators!
