Guest butlersZ
Hey Guys, Well I have my motor in as well as the tranny and now I'm making the wiring harness. My question is will the "TACH" wire that runs from the HEI distributor hook up and run without any resistors or anything to the stock '78 280Z tach? It doesn't have an aftermarket coil or chip yet. Also, does anyone have any tips for building a wiring harness?
Guest 77vegasz
The JTR manual has a procedure for recalibrating the stock 280Z tach so it will work with the HEI distributor. No resistors are needed for the 280 tach. The older 240 tach does need a resister. I used an autometer so I do not remember the calibration procedure. Hopefully someone with the JTR manual will post. Guest BigWhyteDude
on the back of your tack is a hole. That is the adjustment point. Use a small screwdriver and turn it about 45 degrees clockwise. and that should do it. Andrew
Guest butlersZ
Can I remove the tach without pulling the dash out?Because I just put it back in and don't want to remove the entire dash.
280Zone
two screws and it comes out the front. Steering wheel removal might be necessary though.
Pyro
The 280 tach can be adjusted for a V8 but they just don't work very well. I tried it but it never was very accurate. It is better to use an Autometer gage in your dash.
