Anyone done a V8 swap into a Datsun pickup

Well, I've been needing a pickup for a while and a buddy of mine's dad has a 83 Datsun King Cab pickup 4x4 and he wants $500 for it. The motor is just about gone and the tranny is totally shot, otherwise, the body is in good shape and the interior is decent, needs seats, and the dash is cracked, but that doesn't bother me. I just need it for hauling my ATV and general messing around. Retaining the 4wd is a must, as far as engine choices go, decent gas mileage is a must, horsepower, though somewhat important, is secondary. I figure I'll drive the truck 100 miles a week or less with a 600 mile round trip to North Carolina 3 or 4 times a year so I need something that's dependable. If anyone can help me out, many thanks.

well retaining the 4x4 may be a challenge but Ive seen a couple of v8ed datsun trucks in my neck of the woods. Both having more of a pro street look. Engine fits. Other than that I dont know. Good luck

My dad had a 82 pickup, and retaining the 4x4 should be a breeze. the transfer case on those trucks was separate from the trans and connected by a short driveshaft. Any v8 and trans combo should work as long as the overall length does not run the trans into the transfer case.

 

I once looked at putting a Buick 350/TH350 combo in a 71 2wd pickup. Everything appeared to fit, but the driver's side exhaust was going to be a pain because of the steering.
