Chaparral2f
I am starting on the heads for my 350, and I have a question. I am using a Comp 292 Magnum cam, Pete Jackson gear drive, Victor jr and 750 Holly DP. The ignition is a French Grimes Vertex mag. I have a set of L98 alulminum heads, that are going in to be ported. Now here is my question:The current valves are 1.94/1.50. All things equeal, will increasing the valve sizes to 2.00/1.56 make enough difference in the power to justify the extra cost. (My wife has this silly idea that we need to have groceries, and pay the rent. ) i always get good information here, so any help you can give me will be appreciated. thanx, Joe
jt1
Joe, if I were going to have the heads professionlly ported, I'd go with the bigger valves. Your porter would probably want to do that anyway. If it's a DIY job, might stick with what you've got. Aren't the L98's designed for the TPI system? If so, they probably aren't going to flow enough to match up with the rest of your stuff even if pro-ported. To match up with that cam and intake, you want something that will flow 270-280 cfm, and I don't know if the L98's will get there. Might want to trade them off and go with some Ebrocks or AFR's, or if you want to use the heads, tone down the cam and go with a dual plane intake like a performer rpm or a air gap.
