Guest Aaron
Ok, here is the deal. The wife has a '96 pathfinder. Stock exhaust is dual cats into about 2.25" pipes to a large resonator (just in front of the rear end) to a single 2.25" (i think) to the muffler. Muffler and resonator are rusting through. I want to keep the thing quiet, but I would like to release any pony's that might be trapped in the system. I was thinking cut the two pipes in front of the resonator, connect them to an X-pipe, and then to two good muffler's and to tasteful chrome tips on each side of the reese hitch. Will this make any sort of difference? Anyone have suggestions for mufflers that would be quiet (i think I can stand a little louder than stock) and might not be too restrictive? Guest SeanyD300zxT
I just finished a job ona 97 GTP that has stock a single cat, resonator (all 2 1/4) into a y pipe thats 2", dual muffler. Cut it all apart and just did the 2.5 straight from the cat to the y pipe, with some new/better aftermarket mufflers, nothing special, just flow masters. Even with this slight diameter increase and different mufflers (mind you the old stuff was in shit shape) we managed a .5 second drop in the 1/4 mile on a g-tech. Don't be afraid to drop the resonator out of the thing, and maybe a more 'flowing' muffler, the dual cats will keep the thing pretty quiet!! If you have room for dual mufflers, I say go for it, I think the twin tips framing the hitch looks kick ass, just keep the piping sizable. Guest Aaron
Cool, thanks. Got PLENTY of room for the mufflers. The spare is mounted on the tail gate, so the area from the rear end to the bumper, and almost the whole width of the thing is open with about 8-10" from the sheetmetal to the bottom of the hitch.
