Cjarloz
how does one go about tuning a stock efi turbo engine out of an 83'. do i have to mess with the MAF and ecu at all or can i jsut slap on a manual boost controll and jack it up a little and the ecu will compensate. mobythevan
You can put a manual boost controller on and remove the sfety pop off valve on the intake manifold and start turning up boost. The air flow meter will allow the computer to compensate for more boost unitl you reach the limits of the fuel system. Turn up too much boost and buy a new engine, what is too much?? Only one way to find out. 10psi should be safe on stock system with no intercooler. More than that you should use an intercooler and use a wideband O2 sensor to see if you are leaning out. Guest bastaad525
BUT be advised, at 10psi the stock fuel system is going to run a bit on the lean side, at wide open throttle, at anything above 5000rpm. You have to train yourself to just not rev much past this or you're taking a risk. On the dyno, bone stock everything at 10psi my air fuel ratio was up to about 13:1 after 5000rpm which most people will agree is not safe on a turbo car, especially without the I/C, it's gonna be running really hot in the cylinders. Really though there is no real need to push much past that RPM anyways, as power starts to fall off right around 5000-5500, and torque had started dropping off in the 4000's... rev it any higher and you're just winding it out anyways.
