Guest Anonymous
long time since I have been here. I am now building a vega street car, and I am after some engine advice. I have fresh 30 over 350 block, a forged factory chevy 400 crank. I havent got pistons or rods yet. I have 202 double hump heads. Which rods and pistons would yall recommend, plus I am gonna run a 125 nitrous shot. will this combo equal a 406 ? and any building tips would be a big help. Thanks, Tony
Sumo
Hi, long time no hear, how is the 'coating' business lately?
Guest Anonymous
Hey everybody. The coating business has been sold out to my ex-partner. It turned out I was the only one who was working, and they thought they could do better with out me, I think they are all but out of business. But I came out sweet on the buy out. As far as which rods I will use, that is kinda what I am after here, some ad vice on building about 375 to 400 H.P. sbc, I also want to run the edelbrock 125 nitrous shot. so how about some tips on rods, pistons and torque convertor, the car will weigh about 2600 and has 378 gears 350 turbo tranny and I want to be fast but street mostly so I dont think I want a great big-ole stall speed. I also have access to a 400 block, so 350 or 400 ? Thanks guys, Tony

Datsun660z
Sounds Like A 383 Stroker to me.
DavyZ
Welcome back! (at least for a while ) The combo should yield approximately 383 cubic inches. You would need a bored 400 block AND a 400 crank to get 406 cubic inches. The 383 is a great engine though, and it will have some amazing torque. What length connecting rods will you be using? Guest Anonymous
OK to complicate the issue, I was having some glasspaks put on my old 71 van today and the guy at the muffler shop sold me a edelbrock rpm intake still in the plastic and a 600 cfm edelbrock (used but looks new) carb for 125.00 and then he told me he has a 283 and a 327 blocks and I could have the 327 for 50.00 so now I could use a 327-350 or 400. OH WHAT TO DO ? After reading up a bit more I have learned the 400 block requires a bit more cash to make that happen.(ie. damper ,flexplate,etc...) That is not good for me. but I think the 327 or 350 would drain me at an equal pace. So that narrows it down a bit. But I still have the issue of the 400 steel crank I have, can this be used in the 327? and if so which rods and pistons would I need? I"ll hang up and listen. Guest Anonymous
small or large journal 327 ?. To make 375 to 400 HP about the most reasonable solution for your money is to mate your 400 crank to a 350 SBC block.Good buy on the Edelbrock parts..I have this "383" ghetto engine build of using performer carb, manifold, cam, blockhugger headers,.030 overbore 350 block,1.94.1.50 cast iron cylinder heads, cast aftermarket "internal balanced" 383(400) crank, stock 5.7 rods and cast hypereutectic "383" pistons. Basically I would have to buy the 383 crank and pistons an let the 350 make up the rest of the parts for the internal balanced stroker crank.I figure about 350 HP
