Sumo
I have bare block 4 bolt main 70-73 missing one ear at the bolt hole where the bell housing bolts onto it. Can anyone here give me an idea of what needs to be done to see if the block is still useable and what kinda prices i might expect, even if its just ball park figure. Thanks. Guest Anonymous
..Any cast iron engine block welding experts here? SUMO..I am shooting in the Dark here at the 11th hour of the second day of your post...Call a bunch of auto machine shops and ask about getting that piece welded back on. Do you have the broken piece? It may cost more to get it welded back together than a replacement 4 bolt main block would cost. I would also consider why this piece broke too. No need to put money in a block that is damaged. Also is it critical to have this repaired to operate and function. The problem is that to properly weld cast iron it has to be heated and would that heat put a warp on that block in the vital parts.
Sumo
The block was just given to me for nothing, i was just wondering about prices since i've never dealt with the machine shops before so i dont want to get screwed. I dont have the small piece that broke off, i guess that's why i got it for free. I'm just shopping around for prices with you guys who have experience with machining prices before i jump into it.
