240 wheel conversion brain frazzle....

Hello to all..

I just bought a 240 with a 355 SBC. It has stock wheels with Tokikco lowering springs and struts. I have searched the forum, and am brain dead from trying to figure out the best method to go to a 17" wheel. it seems there is many different ways, and no common way to go. I am wondering if there is a performance/weight advantage to going to 5 lug axles rather than spacers or adapters. I plan to build the engine for 450 RWHP and similar torque. I want it set up as a street/roadrace rather than dragstrip car.

Do I use spacers/adapters, or just change over the axles?

Thanks

You will find many differing opinions on this topic. I am building a 72 240 road race car and decided to go with a 5 lug conversion. The upside to this conversion is the bolt pattern is the same as the Ford Mustang. This opens up wheel options. There are several ways to achieve this and if you search you should find plenty of info.

I wanted as few variables as possible so I am going with the zero offset cobra hubs from Modern Motorsports. This eliminates the need for spacers or adapters. The link is below.

You will also either need to redrill your rear axle stubs or you can also order redrilled ones from Modern.

Good luck.

Well,

Thanks to diseasedZ for replying anyway... Ross at Modern has been more than educating on this topic. It is nice to know there is a vet who is willing to help a newbie get educated on the simple stuff. He earned my respect, and i will buy parts from him.

Extreme brakes, 5 lug hubs, and coilovers with koni inserts look like the ticket.

I am looking forward to some canyon carving...
