I just cant have that, i gotta have a manual. i was wondering how much of a pain the conversion would be and if anyone has done it. i assume that i can find the stock assembly somewhere? also the approximate price. im in college now and the cheapest manual would do fine till i graduate thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Anonymous Posted January 14, 2003 Share Posted January 14, 2003 Welcome Bobcat...I would not imagine from a practical standpoint that you could convert that 3 speed automatic to a manual shift for less than $500.00 and doing the conversion yourself. Get yourself a JTR Manual 1-925-462-3619 and study the tarnny section. You can always shop around for a manual equipped car too. If you buy the Hybrid automatic concentrate on other matters to improve the car until you graduate before jumping into a major expenditure like a tranny. Getting the clutch pedal and hydraulics in there is not that bad, but it's time consuming (not good for a college student). Trying to get the clutch and tranny into such a small area without pulling the engine is difficult without the right facilities (heck, it's not easy even if you do have a shop). I ended up pulling the engine because I was adding a bigger motor anyway. It's going to be backed by a T56 (mongo expensive clutch-again not good for a student). I agree with Tomahawk, get one with a manual already installed. You'll have a lot more fun driving it and working on the suspension. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Anonymous Posted January 22, 2003 Share Posted January 22, 2003 Physically putting in a manual transmission is not a big deal, the trans mounts and hydraulic clutch hook-up are pretty simple. The problem is the expense. I purchase a T5 for about $350.00 at a swap meet but then spent another $135 for a flywheel and another $250 for a decent clutch and pressure plate. Naturally you could use used parts but it would be a shame to button it all up and then have slippage problems, etc. Manuals are definitely a lot more fun but autos are good for day to day service.
