Guest Anonymous
Ok, I've got all the JTR parts and as I began to piece them together it became obvious that the rear mount on the Borg Warner 5-Speed is angled. What are you folks doing to mount the cross-member to the trans mount? I bought a typical square rubber mount for the trans, but this doesn't deal with the angle. This trans is out of a firebird which had a special flex mount to deal with the angle. Ideas appreciated...
Dan Juday
All you need is the bellhousing from a f-body and all will be well. The bellhousing mounts the tranny at the same angle so the rear mount comes out level. The bonus to this is that the shifter is now straight too. If you have the jtr book, edition 7, look on page 5-7. It shows the Corvette bellhousing on the left (straight) and the f-body one on the right (angled). DavyZ
Either the JTR Datsun book or the Volvo book showed a modification that was done to the rear mount: the 'ears' were bent such that one was slightly down and the other was slightly up. Then washers were used to make up the difference when mounted on the crossmember. Personally I'd like to have a bellhousing that mounts it level, but since I already have a fine T5 bellhousing....
