EZDUZIT
Hey guys, What about this swap anyone ever done this? My brother and I have a 88 300ZX parts car that the body is straight. We want to turn this into a Track only Drag car. I placed a post in Drivetrain already about puting a Ford 8.8 rear end in the car. We have a 302 with several mods backed up by a C-4 auto. I think this would be a cool swap and would appreciate any input. Thanks in advance Josh
Trevor
It's been discussed, I'm still in the planning phase. I have a '84 that got transplanted from NA to Turbo sometime after it left the factory. Unfortunately, the 3L turbo motor has expired, and needs another transplant. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=33691&highlight=z31 http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=30050&highlight=z31 http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=13001&highlight=z31 http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=12935&highlight=z31 http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=13201&highlight=z31 I'll have to retract my statement about the 5.0L engine accessories being in the right places on non-Fox bodied cars. I'm now thinking that it is the '86-'93 Mustang arrangement of serpentine front end that is always correct, but the Mustang AFM is backwards (to the pass. side) from the 300ZX. To line up the air cleaner-to-snorkel with the AFM the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Lincoln intake is on the correct (driver's) side. Based on JY surveys....Front end accessories seem to move around side to side depending on the year on the big cars. For a drag-only car, the above is probably meaningless. You could run a single v-belt for the water pump and alternator. I'd look at rigid motor plates for mounts.
EZDUZIT
Thanks for the reply Trevor and I really enjoyed the links, but my question is has anyone done this yet? I know I can make it work but it sure is nice to learn from others I have a late 70's model 302 with the sump in the front. I am pretty sure I'll have to find a double hump oil pan out of a fox mustang. I am planning on using my C-4 Auto and solid mounting a Ford 8.8 rear end into the car. This should be fum Might have to get started on this after Christmas.
