Guest zcarbum
Does anyone know at what year they put the R200 in the early Z's??? Or did they not have them standard in the early Z, and the R200 is a mod dropped in from the later year Z's??? Also... is the early R200's Ring gear a 10mm or 12mm??? How to tell?? Those are my questions.. Reason I ask: I'm wondering if you can use the guts of n R200 from a Japanese S15 and will it install into the Z's R200 housing?? Does anyone have any knowledge of what diffs will install from japanese vehicles?? appreciate the help guys..
Hugh
The ring gear is 200mm, hence the name "R200" The bolt size is what differs. I don't know enough about those older diffs, but in the new ones the bolt are either 12mm or 13mm.
wheelman
I don't know what year the switch from 10mm to 12mm for the ring gear bolts happened but I do know that the first year of the 280Z got the R200 when the car had a manual transmission (1975). None of the cars with automatics had the R200. Do a search on this topic and you're certain to find a table that lists when each diff was available in each model of car.
