Guest 71Datsun240zMN
Hey guys, i was wondering if i had to change my whole rear end since i'm planning to throw a LT1 motor in my 71' Z. Could i have to get a camaro rear end and weld it on the frame? Or is it possible to use the stock rear end? Thanks
dsommer
Yes that is exactally what ALL of us do here is we weld in what ever rear end we like. Ford 9" 12bolt GM what ever. Solid mount is best you'll save BIG $$$ because you don't need things like shocks or bushings. Most of us don't use rear brakes either just the fronts for items like line locks so we can fry the rear tires. A lot of guys just dump in the LT-1 engines too it's so simple my little sister did one over the weekend and drove it to school on Monday. Sorry hybridz guys I just couldn't resist. 71Datsun240zMN use the search function
dsommer
OK had to read the HybridZ mission statement again... You can use the stock rearend however I would upgrade to an R-200 out of a 280Z. Your car is currently equiped (if stock) with an R-180. 180 and 200 are the ring gear diamater in milimeters. If you put serious power down you will destroy the R-180, promise. LT-1 do a search there have been a few done, as with the LS-1. Welcome to the board and good luck, remember we're here to help.
