Guest ScaryFast
I have an 81 280zx turbo with a damaged crank angle trigger and was going to wire up a distributor off of a 82 or 83 car that has the trigger in it. Now....I need to know if anyone has done this and if so, what wires go where? Please help, I need to get this car running and out of my life.............. spork
Do you need just the sensor? If you do, I'd sell you one cheap. I've never tried swapping distributors, but I believe they use the same wiring connections and would be basically plug and play operation. Guest bastaad525
It plugs right in. However, there is some question as to the compatibility of the later, internally mounted sensors that came in the '82-83 dizzy, with an '81 ECU, or vice versa. I run an '82 ECU, but an '81 CAS. It runs... but it's always ran just a little bit 'off'. Some misfire at idle that no fix known to man has been able to take care of. Some strange timing issues and some other things. Nothing that makes the car anywhere near undriveable, mind you. Some other members suggested the different year CAS to ECU might be the culprit. Just something to be aware of... your car may not run as well if you go this route. Otherwise it is 'plug and play' however, you'll need to drop your oil pump and change out the distributor shaft to run the newer dizzy.
