hey. i just bought a 1973 240z and im going to swap in either a sr20det or a rb25det. if anyone has done either of the swaps or knows something thats useful, please write me back. i still havent made the final decision on the engine i want to use so opinions on which one and why would be appreciated too. thanks.

Hmmm.. tough choice.. depends on what your final goals are for the car I guess

if you were building up the car to be a track car I'd probably go an SR20.. with its light weight, high revs and small size it'd be great to lighten the Z and still give it plenty of boot. Responds really nicely to modifications and has a huge range of bolt on aftermarket parts.

for street/straight line.. I'd go the RB25.. great engine with enough displacement to take a bigger size turbo without the low down power feeling it too much..

*shrugs* in the end they're both great engines, can't go too far wrong!

I've got an RB20 so im sort of in the middle, hehe

after thinking about it more im leaning towards the rb25 because im not trying to make my z a racing car, but more a really fast street car. i also think it would be easier for the mounting to have an inline six instead of a four banger in the 240.

It'd be a more natural mount for such a big engine bay

really either would suit either application.. its more just personal preference.. for track personally i'd prefer the advantages of the SR but for street the advantages of the RB..

good luck with it!
