PCV valve?

I'm kind of confused when it comes to the purpose of the pcv valve. The way I thought was that it created a vaccum so that there is less resistance inside the motor but The way the motor was in the car (which looked factory) was that one side was going to the vaccum and one side was like a breather going to the air cleaner. What is the proper way to do this? Have a breather on one side and a pcv valve on the other?

A PCV or Postive Crankcase Ventilation system is used to remove any fuel fumes and moisture from the crankcase by creating a very slight vacuum in the crankcase. The correct method to install a PCV system in a V engine is to have a filtered air inlet in one valve cover, and the PCV valve connected to manifold vacuum located in the other valve cover.

This is my first post here. Hello all. I have been lurking to learn before I purchase my first Z. I plan to build a v8 Z, as I am fond of hotrods, muscle cars and sports cars and feel this will be the best of both worlds; and still fit my budget. My current "toy" is a 1981 Chevy shortbox stepside pickup. Lowered 4/5, 700r4, 350HP 355, and a Ford 9" track-lok with 4:11s. Unfortunetly I will be selling this to build my Z. In the past I started to build a chevy 229 v6 powered Triumph Spitfire, but due to job moves and no time, I donated the project to my cousin. Anyway, hello again and I hope I can give back as much as I have learned here so far.

I need to upload some newer images as I have changed the tire and rims.
