Guest z31_drifter
Can anyone give me some good sites to look for JDM engines and parts for the RB25DET or RB26DETT engine. Thanks.
Guest z31_drifter
Also, I was gonna try the V-8 swap but I decided not to. What would be better? The RB25DET swap or the RB26DETT swap for my 84 300ZX. ?
zemus
Their is alot of info on the RB25, RB26 on the top of the 6cly engine page, on stickys, lots of info! Check it out. Edit: After understanding what you want to do with this car ill give you my 2 cents. Look into info on 200zr's (they are rb20 powered z31s) Lots of info can be found on these cars. And If you want to drift usualy you want to cut down most of the weight as MUCH as possable. Ofcourse most car use SR20s for drifting, basicly cuz the S Nissan Chassie is very popular. Really you want a motor that have little lag, good High RPM power and abillity to rev. because when you drift you want the revs. Id look into the SR20, not to be generic, but ive seen Z33s rock SR20s, becuase of the ability to mod them quite inexpensivly. The CA18DET is a good motor also, but might not pound out the Tourqe you want. I mean the VG30ET is a good motor for the most part, why not just stick with that. Also look into gearing, most drift cars have 4.36 Final Drive gearing, ofcourse depending on the car. Gearing is key is what ive noticed. And if you look into the 200zr you will noticed the RB25 isent that uncomman of a swap with 200zr's because of more power and less lag, and the added displacment would help alot. The real thing you should be worrying about if you are making a drift car is what setup you are running for suspention and chassie support. Keep us updated. Guest z31_drifter
Oh ok, I thought the RB series engines would be better for drifting. Is the SR20 engine better because it is lighter? Edit - If I stuck with the VG30ET engine and modifed that, would that be better? What do you guys think? Stick with the engine I have or go with a SR20DET engine. Thanks. My plan is to make a streetable drifting car. No I won't go street drifting. I need some more information though, should I swap the rear end with a Z32 rear end? or are there any other rear ends that I can swap in? I plan to use SS springs in the rear and Suspension technique springs in the front. The SS springs have a higher spring rate. I know the main part to look into for building a drifting car is the suspension and an LSD so that's what I really should focus on. If anyone has some input or more information, that be great. zemus
Just stick with the VG30ET, one thing you will notice in drifting is... well stuff brakes, and do you really want to wait 2 weeks for any major part on the RB, SR, or any other motor that dident come in the US. Also VGs are CHEAP. Cheap to fix, Cheap to replace, ect ect. Also you IMO will have better weight distrobustion with the VG, being a V6, which would be a bit better for drifting. Also just, if you going to make it for drifting, atleast look into a Coilover setup, im not sure about Z31s, but id run some stiff springrates. Also with the LSD start by shimming your Stock Z31 clutch type (which IIRC you have) and making the disks 75lb instead of the stock 45lb. This will help alot in the throttle controll of your drifts. Also a good thing to try if you are underpowered or are having troublems holding a drift for a long period of time, run skinner tires on the wide wheel (streaching the tire). This makes the sidewall flex basicly non existant, also getting rid of that Snap oversteer problem which happends quite often in drifting. This will make your drifts smoother and a bit easyer to controll, well once you get the hang out it. IMO you have choose a good chassie to start drifting on, keep us posted on your setup, and look into some good coilovers for your Z, but buddy just picked up a Z31, and he needs imput. I hope I helped Matt
